A solemn mass was celebrated at St Sebastian Church, Bendur by V. Rev. Fr Vincent Monteiro and co-celebrant V. Rev. Fr Walter Dmello. The liturgy was led by the members of the women’s commission.
Fr Walter Dmello preached the homily on women’s place in society.
Mass was followed by refreshments. A meeting was arranged which was presided by Sr Dona, Convener of women’s commission. Rev Fr Vincent Monteiro, PPP Vice president, Mr Vinod D’Souza and Secretary, Mrs Patsy Britto were present on the dias.
The program was compered by Juliet dsouza. The meeting started with a prayer song by all the members of women’s commission. Fr Vincent Monteiro enlightened the gathering about women’s place in society and empowerment of women. He also highlighted that there are more women than men in our parish council of Bendur.
Mrs Meena Pinto introduced the guest speaker of the evening Dr Sharon Rasquinha, professor of gynaec. Dr Sharon spoke about women’s health and about common cancers in women, how to prevent cancers and early detection. The talk was followed by lively interaction by the audience.
Two women from our parish where honoured. Shrimathi Hilda Dsouza for winning medals in 100 mts race, long jump and 400 meter relay at AFO India. She is from Balmatta 2 ward. Also, Miss Shivani Maria Monteiro for attaining 3rd rank in ACCA, student of St Agnes college. She hails from bikarnekatte ward. Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Violet Lasrado.
